Be Vigilant!

Dear friends,

As I write this, the President of the United States is telling us that U.S. forces have won a substantial victory in the war against terrorism, and that we should be encouraged, but vigilant in the days to come.  How appropriate.  That’s exactly the message I wish to convey to you.

As a church, we are winning victories for the sake of the kingdom.  People are coming to faith in Jesus.  Kids are learning about God and His love for them.  Adults are experiencing the support and growth that small groups provide.  People are praying for others consistently.  We should all be encouraged!  A lot of good stuff is happening around us and I am thankful every day for what God is doing in and through our church.  Our spiritual enemy has taken notice, as well.

Our spiritual enemy is basically a terrorist.  He depends upon fear, deception and intimidation to achieve his ultimate purposes.  His goal is to first separate us relationally from one another so that we can then be deceived into believing that we are separated from our Savior.  Once that occurs, he can lure us deeply into discouragement and despair.  This can rob us of the joy that is rightfully ours and can significantly lessen our effectiveness in our service to our Lord.  It’s a classic terrorist strategy. » Read the rest of this entry «

Why a Website?

I am so very excited to welcome you to Valley Bible Church’s new website.  I believe this site will quickly become an important tool in our church’s ministry.

Some may ask why we are so excited about this website, or perhaps even why our church would invest the significant time and energy that has gone into its development.  For me the answer to this is simple;

Community requires communication.

At Valley Bible Church, our vision is to become a community of believers who love God and others.  Neither community nor love can be achieved or demonstrated without communication.  We need to become more keenly aware of what is happening around us.  Whether it is the communication of a need within the community, or the communication of an upcoming youth event, it is communication that lies at the heart of community.

Our culture tells us to take care of ourselves.  Jesus told us to take care of each other.  To escape our culture’s mindset and follow Jesus’ command requires communication.  I am excited for this powerful and attractive new resource, and I thank those who have worked diligently to make it possible.

“Breathe in…. breathe out”

Have you heard the one about the ditzy blonde (note I didn’t say male or female) who was frantic to find the note he/she had left himself/herself. On it, he/she had written the following: “Breathe in…. Breathe out. Breathe in… breathe out.” » Read the rest of this entry «
